Happy New Year!
The new year always seems to come with resolutions – some I keep and some just get packed away like holiday decorations. I am much more likely to keep those that involve someone I care about. So, this year, let’s make goals that are fun and will benefit both you and your dog.
Regular Outings
Not only does it provide much needed physical and mental stimulation for your dog, it helps us to get out as well
· Training walks to practice heel and basic cues.
· Exploration walks (“sniffari”) on a long lead in the woods, park or the beach.
· Play in the leaves, jump in the snow or run through the neighborhood.
· Visit Starbucks and treat your dog to a Puppuccino.
Learn Something New
Training provides so many benefits: it’s fun for you and your dog; prevents unwanted behaviors that stem from boredom; and strengthens the bond with your pup
· Teach your dog a new trick or cue – like High-Five, Chin or Middle.
· Take a class for a new certification like AKC Canine Good Citizen. I am certified to teach all 4 levels and would love to have you join a class.
· Learn methods to help make vet visits easier for you and your dog. What aspects of a vet visit are hardest for your dog? With my new Fear Free Certification, I am happy to help.
Social Time
Life is always better together
· Make a doggie playdate with a friendly dog.
· Visit a friend or neighbor who loves playing with your dog.
· Take a walk or hike with friends.
· Take nap or cuddle together and watch a movie.
Fun with food
Food is wonderful for enrichment activities and fun for us to create:
· Make a stuffed Kong and freeze it for added enjoyment time.
· Make homemade (puppy safe) ice cream or treats. I can provide lots of recipes.
· Give your dog her meals in a puzzle or slow feeder.
· Use a food dispensing toy or snuffle mat.
· Let your dog find food under plastic cups, a twisted towel or in a ball pit.
I wish you all peace, good health and time with your favorite ones in 2022. Can’t wait to see what adventures we will take together!
